It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the official digital home of the Nepalese Society of Soil Science (NSSS). This website marks a significant milestone in our journey of revitalization. After nearly two decades of dormancy prior to 2014, the NSSS was successfully reactivated through the collective determination of soil scientists across universities, government bodies, and research institutions in Nepal. As your President for the past decade, I have witnessed our society transform from a quiet association into a vibrant, legally renewed executive body dedicated to the preservation and study of our nation’s most fundamental resource: The Soil.

Our collective efforts have not only solidified our domestic presence but have also elevated Nepal’s soil science community onto the global stage. We are proud to have secured formal memberships with the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) and the East and Southeast Asian Regional Federation of Soil Science Societies (ESAFS). These international alliances have allowed our researchers to exchange vital innovations, data and methodologies’, ensuring that Nepalese soil science remains at the forefront of regional and global standards.

Looking ahead, our mission is to expand our membership, foster the next generation of soil scientists and keep the society vibrant. We are currently preparing for our most ambitious endeavor yet: hosting the International ESAFS Conference in 2027. This prestigious event will bring together experts from across Asia and Pacific; and beyond to share groundbreaking innovations and sustainable soil management practices. I invite all researchers, practitioners, students, and stakeholders to join us in this mission, as we work together to harness new knowledge for the common benefit of our region and the food security of our nation.
